NorthEastern Sri Lanka February 2005
A week in Sri Lanka, 3 days at orphanages and camps, enough to feel but not enough time do. Words alone cannot describe the experience. I was part of a multicultural group blessed with the beauty of Sri Lankan nature & people. Traveling to Trincomalee, Nillaveli and deeper northeast area of Kalladi, I was touched by the destruction of ethnic war topped by the tsunami. The refugee camps we visited were lined with canvas tents & not enough basic supplies to sustain them. Our group provided temporary relief by conducting puppet shows, teaching breathing techniques, self-soothing strategies & just being present & attentive to the children, through play.
